TLC Announces $400,000 Community Capital Grant from Wake County to Support Supportive Housing Renovations
County investment will help modernize TLC’s supportive housing for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities
TLC, founded as Tammy Lynn Center, has been awarded a $400,000 Community Capital Grant from Wake County to renovate its supportive housing for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). The funding is part of the County’s $7 million investment in 16 nonprofit capital projects.
The grant will help modernize TLC’s on-campus, residential homes, which provide 24/7 support, nursing oversight, and community integration for adults with I/DD in Wake County. These intermediate care facility homes provide safe, caring places where individuals who are unable to live in their family homes due to their medical needs or other circumstances can grow and thrive.
“These renovations ensure that the people who call TLC home continue to have safe, accessible, high-quality housing designed around their needs,” said Sarah Crawford, CEO of TLC. “We appreciate Wake County and the Board of Commissioners’ commitment to strengthening the care infrastructure families depend on every day.”
TLC has operated in Wake County for 56 years, and provides residential, therapeutic, and family support programs to more than 2,000 children and adults with I/DD annually. The improvements supported by this grant will focus on updating aging systems, enhancing accessibility, and preserving long-term residential capacity for the growing number of families seeking services.
The Community Capital Grant Program, established in 2002, funds nonprofit-led projects that expand countywide access to housing, health care, behavioral health, food security, and family supports. Wake County’s investment can cover up to 40 percent of total project costs.
Community Call to Action: Support TLC’s Heart-to-Heart Campaign
As TLC prepares for this renovation work, the organization is also inviting the community to support its heart-to-heart year-end campaign. Heart-to-Heart strengthens the everyday care, therapies, and residential services that thousands of families rely on. This year’s goal is $225,000.
Gifts can be made securely online to support TLC’s full continuum of services for children and adults with I/DD. Year-end giving information is available at https://www.nctlc.org/h2h/.
