Therapy Services

Therapy Services at TLC utilize an interdisciplinary approach, involving team members from different disciplines working collaboratively to perform assessments, diagnose and develop intervention plans. Other TLC staff, caregivers and families are involved in discussions regarding the development of the intervention plans.

Types of Therapy Services

  • Psychology Services – psychological assessments (cognitive, developmental, adaptive behavior, autism), behavioral intervention consultation and planning, training and education of staff and caregivers.
  • Speech/Language Pathology Services – assessments to diagnose and treat speech, language, communication and swallowing disorders. Training and education of staff and caregivers takes place once plans have been developed.
  • Dietitian/Nutrition Services – nutrition assessments, assist with implementing and amending diet prescriptions, and plan menus to accommodate all specific dietary needs. Instruction materials and individual counseling to families and clients is also provided.

  • Physical Therapy Services – provide evaluations to determine the supports needed by the individual, family, and caretakers to maximize independent living. This includes evaluating independent self-care, independent mobility, access to leisure and fitness activity, participation in education (secondary and postsecondary), and participation in vocational opportunities. Areas assessed include range of motion, tolerance, and coordination. Evaluations also include adaptive equipment needs and home/environmental modification needs. Training is provided to family and staff on handling/positioning, adaptive equipment, etc.
  • Occupational Therapy Services – provide comprehensive evaluations and treatment plans or consultations in the areas of fine motor, oral motor, sensory motor, and performance of daily activities.  Training and education is provided for family/caregivers and staff to help individuals meet their goals.

  • Social Work Services – assistance to families to coordinate admissions, discharges and transitions. Liaison for families between TLC and other agencies. Assistance in identifying needed resources for families in the community.
